ATLANTA – The Atlanta Police Department is looking for outstanding citizens to join the 2015 Spring Citizens Academy on Wednesday, April 29. The Citizens Police Academy provides a unique opportunity to learn how the police department operates and provides participants with an opportunity to give feedback that can only enhance police and community relations.

The Citizens Police Academy participants will learn about departmental procedures as well as hear about the many units that comprise the Atlanta Police Department, including 911, Internal Affairs, and the Training Academy. Citizens will participate in a zone ride-along and watch a K-9 demonstration. Participation requires a commitment of 3 hours, one night a week for an eight week period.

“The Citizens Police Academy was a great experience and I would encourage anyone who wants learn about their local law enforcement to sign up. I had a greater understanding of what officers go through on a daily basis, especially in the ride-along and the active shooter simulator,” said Atlanta resident Katie Kosciolek. “I definitely have a greater appreciation for the Atlanta Police Department.”

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Herbert T. Jenkins Atlanta Police Academy located at 180 Southside Industrial Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia 30354.
