Lake Claire needs a rep to the Freedom Park Conservancy

Here’s your opportunity to volunteer for Lake Claire…

Have you been thinking that you want to get active within Lake Claire Neighbors but just didn’t know how? Here’s an opportunity – Lake Claire needs a representative to the Freedom Park Conservancy (FPC). Freedom Park is the almost 200-acre linear park that runs from the downtown connector to the Candler Park Golf Club through the Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park and Candler Park.

A number of years ago, a group of neighborhoods – including Lake Claire – stopped construction of the expressway through the footprint that the park now covers. To our delight, since the expressway was stopped, FPC is able focus on this great park as a wonderful asset to our neighborhoods.

FPC meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Carter Center.

The neighborhood representative provides a two-way flow of information between FPC and its respective neighborhood organizations.

The Conservancy addresses day-to-day issues such as lighting issues in the park, as well as requests for encroachments into the park, such as the one proposed as part of the Mary Lin expansion.

With a look to the future, the Conservancy is also working to embark upon a Master Plan update and to embrace the title of “Atlanta’s Art Park”.
