FREEDOM PARK CONSERVANCY NEWS

Did you know Freedom Park was born on September 28, 1998, when Georgia Department of Transportation leased the 130-acres of land intended to be a road to the City of Atlanta Parks Department?

In September, Freedom Park Conservancy will be celebrating the 27th birthday of Freedom Park. Join us during September as we remind ourselves of the history of this land, and focus on how we are called to work together into crafting an equitable, culturally rich, and civic-minded urban park within the City of Atlanta—a national example for the importance of citizen empowerment and the value of common ground.

Fun Facts:
• 34,250 people live within a 10-minute walk of the park
• 60,700 people live a 10-minute bike ride of the park
• 43,500 people visit the park every day
• The Martin Luther King Jr. Center, The Carter Center and John Lewis Plaza, home to two Nobel Laureates and our beloved Georgia Congressman, anchor the park as a civic-epicenter for the future
• Designated an Atlanta Art Park in 2007, with permanent & temporary art installations

Local restaurants have agreed to help us celebrate by hosting dine outs during September and donating 10% of their receipts to Freedom Park Conservancy to maintain and enhance the park. See the calendar below for the initial schedule. More dates will be added soon.
You could also celebrate this birthday by becoming an annual donor to Freedom Park Conservancy and thereby becoming a Park Partner. Join: bit.ly/fpcpartner
