Monthly Meeting: Jun. 18, 2015

Pizza (compliments of Savage Pizza) and soft drinks will be served 15 minutes before the meeting. The Lake Claire Neighbors Association is very grateful to this local business for its generous support.

Guests:
Lt. Floyd from the APD, Precinct 6, reported that the crime level in Lake Claire was down compared to this time last year. He added that his officers are continuing to patrol and keep vigilant.
Valencia Hudson from Councilmember Natalyn Archibong’s office gave advice on how a street can have speed bumps installed. 75% of the actual home owners must agree and the City’s Dept. of Transportation will then do a study to determine if there is a need.

Safety – Kathie Ryan
Kathie also reported that crime was down although there were a couple of incidents of items left in cars that were stolen. She noted the APD’s apprehension of the individuals responsible to for the murders in the Vortex parking lot in Little Five Points a few months ago. The formation of a Lake Claire/Candler Park Security Patrol is in progress. The special committee of volunteers neighbors will be meeting soon in order to establish a non-profit corporation to administer the patrol.

Announcements and current issues
2015 dues reminder – $20 per household
Joe reported on the major success of the Lake Claire Centennial Celebration in the Cator Woolford Gardens of the Frazer Center. Approximately 160 children and adults attended taking part in the variety of planned activities including an excellent BBQ fare, Ms. Ladybug’s entertainment for kids, a silent auction, LCN tee shirts and hats sale, a scavenger hunt and tables for LCN and Land Trust Membership. A number of dues were paid and several LCN banners sold. All in all, a big day for the neighborhood!!!
Kudos to Kathie Ryan who organized the event and all the other people (too numerous to mention) who contributed their time and effort.
Vote on proposed modifications to the NPU-N By-Laws. Carol Holliday, LCN VP for NPU and Planning presented and explained the modifications:
-Little 5 Points Center for Arts and Community name change.
-Moves ‘10 minutes or another specified time’ to a summary (adding flexibility on time).
Approved unanimously: 7 to 0
Robin Singer, LCN VP for Zoning presented a variance request for 306 Arizona Ave. to reduce the required north side yard setback from the required 7 feet to 2 feet to allow for an addition to a single family dwelling.
