What we covered at the 2/20/25 LCN meeting

Thanks to all who attended!

Nancy: Sign up for Email Newsletter – We had to do a list purge due to a huge number of spam emails added in January. If you didn’t get the agenda for this meeting, please sign up again in case you were caught in it. We tried to only delete foreign emails who had never opened a mailing.

Jay: We filed taxes. Treasurer Report:

Beth: not this month – next month.

Carol

These are on March agenda for NPU

Party House: Houses where one must pay admission to join. Non profits are exempt from party house rules. New rule: party houses may not be located in residential neighborhoods and cannot be 150ft of residential neighborhood

Carol doesn’t see this really impacting Lake Claire.

Short Term Rentals: Significant changes.

  • Prior: Resident of Atlanta to run a STR in Atlanta
  • Proposed change – anyone can have a STR, must have a property manager that lives within a range. But owner can be anywhere.
  • Can not be within a 1000ft of another STR.  Current licensees are grandfathered, forever.
  • So you could never add a STR if your neighbor has one
  • (STR is less than 30 days.)
  • License fee has increased by $100.
  • Carol is going to take back the neighborhood’s concerns to the LCN. (If you have specific concerns, contact carol at npu@lakeclaire.org)

Next: April Agenda

Administrative Variance :

City says that they need to be able to give variance to allow a house to be moved due to a tree.

Problems:

  • Can’t tell impact to adjacent neighbors.  They could unilaterally change a setback.
  • Only sideyard setbacks and priority trees.  NOT stated in the text. They are saying that they will add verbiage, but it’s still not stated.
  • Appeals? How? Appeal to dept that made the decision, but there is no way of knowing if you need to appeal.
  • It’s taking away power from the neighborhood to review variances.
  • Builders want this because they don’t want to go through the process.
  • Carol would like to be able to write a letter that Lake Claire does not support this.  But this will be next month that we can vote as a neighborhood, so attend next month to vote on the Lake Claire position on this issue.

Rewrite of the Tree Protection Ordinance.

This will be on the agenda for next month, after Carol has had a chance to really dig into the ordinance.

Lake Claire Park report from Judy:
We’re thrilled to announce that Friends of Lake Claire Park has been awarded a 2025 grant from @ParkPride! With this funding, we will be able to build a plaza with steps from the tennis court to the playground. We can’t wait to see the impact this will have on our park and neighborhood. Expect to see this project in the works soon. Also: February 22, 9-12 workday in Lake Claire Park… Sign up at Trees Atlanta website or just show up!

Safer McLendon: Looking at grants for money for McLendon improvements. Next will be Oakdale. Was brought up that changes to the Lake Claire intersections should come to the LCN before proceeding into next steps.
